Many Canadians from the Province of Quebec visit the Southeast portion of Florida which encompasses Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties on the Atlantic Ocean. The beaches are white and sandy and offer days of sunshine and warm winter weather.
However, many Canadians do not realize that Southeast Florida also offers every type of professional sporting activities including, hockey, baseball, football, basketball, soccer, even cricket and Jai-Alai! In addition, those sporting events are played in some of the best sporting facilities in this country.
The Baseball stadium where the Miami Marlins play their home games has a closing roof to protect its fans from the occasional bad weather. You can watch the Marlin home games in a facility where the roof can close and the inside is air conditioned. Your view of the city, from the inside of the baseball stadium, is through very high glass walls.
The football stadium, located on the Miami-Dade and Broward county line, has been completely renovated for more comfort and protection against the rain. A partial roof was constructed to protect over 80 % of the seating in the stadium. The stadium has also changed its name to “Hard Rock Stadium” in 2016 from the former name “Sunlife Stadium”.
The Hockey arena is located in Broward County in the City of Sunrise and is located right off State Road 869 which is also known as the “Sawgrass”. This is where you see your Montreal Canadians play several times during the NHL hockey season. The arena is right across the street of the largest wholesale mall in Florida known as “Sawgrass Mills”. It is the largest outlet and value retail shopping destination in the United States. There you can shop for anything in an indoor mall with more than 350 stores and eating facilities in dozens of fine restaurants and movie theaters.
As to a new sport for Florida; Cricket, the facility is called Central Broward Stadium sport and it is located in the city of Lauderhill and held several international events in 2016, and it is the only certified facility for cricket in Florida. This stadium is now also the new facility for the Florida Strikers, the professional soccer team in Broward County. The stadium was built in 2007 but renovated for soccer in 2016 and is expandable to hold a crowd of 20,000. They held their first game at this stadium against the Ottawa Fury FC.
